Screw Vintage.

Multi-scale digital houndstooth pattern, brassy illustration-style baroque/art nouveau flourishes.

Seriously, wtf? These leggings are FTW. They're "vintage" Express tricot, but I prefer calling it as it really is... "Mom's seriously fug' stuff from the 90s. Had to wrestle them from my brother who wanted to try 'em on too when he discovered them, can't blame him. American Apparel's tricot leggings can suck it, these are so crazy awesome my head is exploding.

Best part about them being old is that the cut isn't modern skin-tight. Meaning? No camel toe.

The French don't celebrate Halloween...but

It's October which means Halloween will be swiftly upon us all.

Now, I'm a firm believer that Halloween costumes should be scary or just you know... awesome.
Which is why I still think last year's mummy was obviously more successful than store-bought slutty mummy (shown below) because it met both criteria.
But there comes a time in every girl's life where, she has to give up her standards and values in order to better ride the harsh, crashing tides of life and reality. I may just be saying that because I'm in college, and I'm jaded, and losing touch with my sweet and innocent former self, but also because...

HOLY FUCKING SHIT THEY MADE NAPOLEON SEXY!

I mean, come on.

Now all I need is someone to dress up as a come-hither Robespierre and I'll be set.

Dalliance in New York

I did have a bit of fun in NYC this past weekend.
We toured the MoMA and argued the artistic merit of "Modern" (yet not Contemporary) artists:

of course, I had a mongoose mackerel of a time looking at my favorite works in the flesh... or canvas as it were.
For instance .. there was Miro...

...odilon redon.... rousseau...

...picasso.....klimt...

And as we came to the Rothkos I forced my brothers to split themselves Freud-style --- id, ego, superego and all that jazz...

goofed around, like a naked Matisse.

"oofed" around a bit too.

and one outfit pic to round it off:
theres no lioncoveringcamera so its not proper, but you know I had to:

August Sawdust

Sometimes I like to take an extremely basic concept and overcomplicate it. It's fun. But that's not for today. But lets suppose I added these, which I did:

Suddenly you've got that 1930's steel driver Americana thing going on. Plus, I'm still struggling with how that ultra-short romper is just so hard to integrate into an outfit but Zow! Those D&G jeans were just un-blue enough to pull it together. What I mean to say is, that it was hot and humid today but I still found a way to layer. Mother nature be damned, I will get to wear scarves this week.

childhoodflames was right - summer clothes definitely lack the impact and multi-dimensionality that fall clothing has in excess. Still, it didn't stop Mr. Creepy from brushing past me at the metro with his uber-lecherous "How you doin'..." Wish I had my steel-drivin' hammer to crush his toes, alas I was dressed for the occasion but ill-equipped.

He's lucky I didn't have my carpenter's* pants on.

John Henry - Harry Belafonte

*just kidding, I'd never own one of those godawful excuses for legcoverings.

A Look Back - Tina Turner Ain't Got Nothin...

totes eighties dress stolen from my mom's bad fashion choices personal collection. They had shoulder pads (eek!) but I love it anyway...

with socks these patent leather Stellablu shoes look almost like gladiator booties. Probably better with a longer minidress or, even better, longer shorts.

Heres to you Tina, much love.

Anchorage, AK dreaming on such a summer's day

dress from forever 21

Now I'm just waiting for winter, springtime florals are one thing, but for A/W that beautiful royal blue is totes happening. I miss the cold, and the layering. Ah something to look forward to according to whowhatweardaily:
Goodness gracious I love outlet prices. This cute PUMA laptop/messenger bag was just 25 bucks when I snagged it yesterday. Brown should be considered warm but this shade is wonderfully neutral so it will go with most anything, awesome.

forever 21 It's so short its scandalous.

Ah, so most of my wardrobe consists of these sort of hand-me down pieces that I like to patch together by color family, pattern or texture. But the philosophy/dogma used to be layers, layers, layers. The heat is definitely not letting me have my way here.

A look back - Music Battlegear

So I'm in this band, right. I was feeling tremendously nostalgic because various members are tooling about around the globe, so I figured I ought to make an homage to this last year with a look back at this last year's-ish collection of outfits from our various shows.

One of the best memories of this year, when we played the 9:30 club. Unfortunately, I think the choice of clothes was questionable. Ah, well.

"bye-bye for now" show at The Lab
prom dress, 4 inch patent leather peeptoe wedges.

Galaxy Hut Show
I think we each picked eras for this one.

Fort Reno 2007
Gap scarf, fake red chucks, corset from White House | Black Market

Positive Youth Fest
Dress from H&M, minimalist gray stockings

Ridiculous TGIF show for DC Independent Music Festival
Head to toe in terrible vintage clothes: abstract sweater-shirt, grey-green bomber jacket (below), sunflower print extreme gaucho pants (thats right, its not a skirt), wool scarf, complete with face paint.

I had to give true props to our lovely guitarist connor who is way more of a fashionista than I can ever aspire to be. Dig his Jesus shirt, tight bellbottom mustard pants, fuschia head scarf, and facepaint (peace signs courtesy of moi).
